Calabashi

Description

Pungi- Bin is a mysterious instrument for my conception. Calabash is the vegetable used in making the Pungi is a specie belonging to the bottle gourd family. This is a bitter vegetable among them and not preferable to eat. In accordance with my assumption, Maybe because man could not eat this, he made an instrument out of it and in the grudge of once he could not bare the bitterness he created myth about this instrument saying that whenever the been is played snakes are attracted to the sound and gets hypnotized by the music of it. There might be psychological exploration by the primitive snake charmers . Which still remains as a mystery. But snakes physiologically cannot hear the sound like we humans hear.
In the sculpture of mine which is made out of stone is a customised design of pungi (been/ bin) the double reed on which holes are made is adapted on the gourd itself. And these holes and the pillared structure formed in between the holes look like the carved structure in any of the rock cut caves is the resemblance of the mystery created around the Pungi.
In this narration I want to highlight the stories woven by the man which has myths and facts.
