I paint in layers with many papers and strokes being obliterated into the recesses of the canvas almost like our memories of the past. This one has a hymn called Jerusalem embedded into the painting. It reminded me of school days in England where we sang these hymns.
The sight of flowers instantly changes our mood in a joyful state. In my paintings I try to capture the short lived floral beauty in a realistic way with the vibrant watercolor medium to create an atmosphere to appreciate the gifts nature has given us.
Her face is lit with the warmth of the “diya”, her thoughts are peaceful, her prayers transmitted to the universe and she emerges all aglow from within. For me, the hours spent on the kancheevaram saree and her expression were intensely meditative and satisfying.
