Swarnāmbuja – the golden lotus is beautifully represented as a mandala. The background features a postmodern treatment with gold gilding comprising some textured elements, adding a new layer of aesthetic depth to the piece. This blend of traditional and contemporary styles gives my work a unique visual dimension.

A butterfly symbolizes growth, hope, renewal and the Nepali mother wants just that for her daughter. She aspires for a world with a bright future for her little girl, as the latter gazes at the butterfly fluttering in her small palm.
Her face is lit with the warmth of the “diya”, her thoughts are peaceful, her prayers transmitted to the universe and she emerges all aglow from within. For me, the hours spent on the kancheevaram saree and her expression were intensely meditative and satisfying.
