Using ink, gouache, and markers on recycled and printed paper, the piece blends contemporary self-love with classical aesthetics to challenge beauty norms and celebrate feminine confidence and vitality.
A butterfly symbolizes growth, hope, renewal and the Nepali mother wants just that for her daughter. She aspires for a world with a bright future for her little girl, as the latter gazes at the butterfly fluttering in her small palm.
Her face is lit with the warmth of the “diya”, her thoughts are peaceful, her prayers transmitted to the universe and she emerges all aglow from within. For me, the hours spent on the kancheevaram saree and her expression were intensely meditative and satisfying.
