This watercolor painting captures the spiritual essence of the Manik arnica Ghat, where the river Ganga flows beside age-old stone steps. The misty hues, gentle washes, and subtle play of light reflect both the silence and the sacred energy of the place. It portrays the eternal cycle of life and death, a space where faith, ritual, and serenity merge into one timeless flow.
Inspired by a real-life scene, an innovative sleeping place the family cat found for herself for her afternoon siestas. Neither the noise by the two cheerful woodpeckers pecking at anything nor thunder and lightning could move her!
Her face is lit with the warmth of the “diya”, her thoughts are peaceful, her prayers transmitted to the universe and she emerges all aglow from within. For me, the hours spent on the kancheevaram saree and her expression were intensely meditative and satisfying.
The sight of flowers instantly changes our mood in a joyful state. In my paintings I try to capture the short lived floral beauty in a realistic way with the vibrant watercolor medium to create an atmosphere to appreciate the gifts nature has given us.
