This portrait of a resolute Mahatma Gandhi, when he was staying at Sevagram ashram after having shifted from Sabarmati ashram, was painted by me in 4 – 5 layers progressing from dark to light colours. It took about 85 hours to complete. I visited Sevagram to see the details of the ashram on site before completing the painting.
The sight of flowers instantly changes our mood in a joyful state. In my paintings I try to capture the short lived floral beauty in a realistic way with the vibrant watercolor medium to create an atmosphere to appreciate the gifts nature has given us.
Inspired by a real-life scene, an innovative sleeping place the family cat found for herself for her afternoon siestas. Neither the noise by the two cheerful woodpeckers pecking at anything nor thunder and lightning could move her!

Her face is lit with the warmth of the “diya”, her thoughts are peaceful, her prayers transmitted to the universe and she emerges all aglow from within. For me, the hours spent on the kancheevaram saree and her expression were intensely meditative and satisfying.
