Ramnarayan Chellaram RotoQuiz turns 60 16th September 2019

     Roto Quiz is one of the most popular Annual programs of our club that has been generously supported by the family of Rtn. Ramnarayan Chellaram for 6 decades.

The long awaited Roto Quiz happened on the 16th of September  @ RHF. Hall was filled with Rotarians, Rotaractors, Ramnarayan Chellaram’s family, Spouses, students and friends. Hall was transformed into “God’s own RHF” as many were in Onam attire. Following the silent prayer, announcements, recognizing the Rotarians from Mangalore for their top class hospitality, welcoming the Rtn.Ramnarayan’s family, acknowledged Mr. Naren kuduva, Kurlon for his contribution of mattresses worth Rs.40lakhs for the Nilambur flood relief.  Mr. Manikanda Kumar was felicitated for his achievement in Para climbing championship. He was promoted, encouraged and sponsored by a Rotarian to fly to Spain and participate the world wide event. He has won several gold, silver and bronze medals and dreams to win a Olympic Medal for India.

     Formal MOU was signed by Rtn.Faizal Jaliwala for B.Ed Scholarship. President Elizabeth thanked Rtn. S.V.L.Narayan, the quiz master. She highlighted the contributions of Rtn. Ramnarayan Chellaram,(joined Rotary in 1941) towards setting up of Book Bank, opening hospitals, Rehabilitation center for Leprosy, Ramnarayan Chellaram College of Commerce in the year 1959 and many more. Director Youth Services Shailesh Shah greeted everyone in Malayalam and requested the family members Mr. Prakash, Mr. Jawahar and Mr. Jagadeesh along with the President Elizabeth and Secretary Vinita Chinnappa to light the lamp.

     The Quiz Master Rtn. S.V.L. Narayan has been preparing this quiz for almost a year, said that all the quizzers could answer if they had followed the news paper, TV and social media. He conducted the “quiz with a twist” so professionally that the audience or the quizzers wouldn’t want to miss a word he uttered.  The 5 teams qualified for the finals were NIT-K Suratkal, Mahesh PU College, Mangalore, PES University, National Law School, St.Josephs Autonomous from Bangalore. 

There were totally 7 interesting rounds like Chow Chow, Reverse, Audio, Visual, This and that, Buzzer. Rules were made clear and judge’s decision would be final.

     The first question, “Breaking the ice” was thrown to the audience. It was a visual slide Rtn Solomon Paramel in a Tuxedo suit, the place of its origin was asked. Audience earned 5 star bars for answers. Rtn. R. Raghunathan and Rtr. Sikhil were the score keepers.

There were several interesting questions. Some of the excerpts – Eva Air belongs to, the short wings of a jet, Mortimer “Mortie” and Ferdinand “Ferdie”, Volfefe index, Technique of photography with sharp resolution of the object with blurred background, Bradshaw’s guide,  Subash Chandra Bose’s address on Air, Surname of Penny, Spiderman Fame,  Avengers – End game, The composer who would have turned out to be a wrestler if he had not become a musician, Proctor and Gamble, Fevicol is a product of, identify the actress, play back singers, Hindi is introduced as a 3rd language in which country?     

The attention of the quizzers and the audience were totally held by our own talented Quiz Master Rtn. S.V.L. Narayan. After the power packed Rounds it was time for the Results. PES University, Bangalore have been winning for the past 3 consecutive years, topped this time too.
