Dark to Light

On 7th July 2025, the Rotary Club of Bangalore, in collaboration with Balance Wellness and Spa and NABK (National Association for the Blind, Karnataka), launched the next phase of its “Dark to Light” initiative — a vocational training program in Reflexology for visually impaired individuals.

Held at Balance Wellness and Spa, the event featured a welcome address by Rtn. Minku Buttar. Rtn. Vish Iyer spoke on Rotary’s spirit of service, while Rtn. Rajesh (CEO, NABK) emphasised the project’s role in creating meaningful opportunities.

Dr. Ravneet Grewal, co-founder of Balance, led an insightful session on the holistic approach to reflexology and energy flow. Dr. Grewal has taken on the responsibility of training the participants, offering them a path to dignity, independence, and meaningful work. His support has been invaluable to this project.

Seven visually impaired candidates, identified by NABK, were introduced as part of the training cohort. The event concluded

with the official kick-off of the month-long program. This initiative exemplifies Rotary’s commitment to creating inclusive employment pathways.

The 41st edition of ShieldHer

United Against Cervical Cancer unfolded on July 8, 2025, at Christ University (Deemed to be University), Bangalore with an impactful awareness session led by Dr. Vidyamani, Senior Consultant at Sagar Chandramma Hospital, Bengaluru.

In a session that combined science with social relevance, Dr. Vidyamani shed light on cervical cancer—discussing its root causes, common risk factors, and the critical importance of early screening. She also emphasized the role of HPV vaccination as a key preventive measure.

A vibrant audience of 290 MBA students from the School of Business and Management, along with 10 faculty/staff members, actively participated. The conversations moved beyond theory, as students candidly shared their own vaccination experiences and posed insightful questions about treatment options and life after diagnosis.

The success of the session was made possible thanks to the dedicated efforts and coordination of senior faculty members Dr. Rajashree Kamath, Dr. Hemalata R, Dr. Sreelakshmi P, and Medical Officer Dr. Seela Mathew. Their leadership continues to foster a campus culture that prioritizes health education and women’s well-being.

A SPARKLING NEW CHAPTER- IWC BANGALORE STEPS INTO ITS 60th YEAR!

In a solemn yet spirited ceremony at the Rotary House of Friendship, the Innerwheel Club (IWC) of Bangalore ushered in a new era of leadership for 2025–26, marking a significant milestone—its 60th year of dedicated service. Originally chartered on July 14, 1966, the club now enters its diamond jubilee with a renewed sense of purpose and commitment.

District Chairman Rajani Gowda formally installed the new leadership team—President Sharmila Perumal, Secretary Archana Shailesh, and the executive committee members—collectively known as Team Solitaire. The occasion was rich with tradition, camaraderie, and a shared resolve to drive meaningful change. In her acceptance address, President Sharmila Perumal reflected on the club’s legacy and the honor of taking on a role shaped by decades of impactful leadership.

“I step into this role with deep gratitude, a strong sense of responsibility, and great enthusiasm,” she said. “As we celebrate the 60th year of our club, it is time to reflect, cherish, and honour our past presidents—each of whom has left behind a legacy of impactful projects, strong leadership, and a spirit of togetherness.” Team Solitaire would align with the year’s guiding theme—“Step Up and Lead by Example”, as set by International Innerwheel and the Association of Innerwheel Clubs in India.

District Chairman Rajani Gowda extended greetings and shared a heartfelt message from International Innerwheel President Kay Morland:

“Home is behind you, Innerwheel is around you, and the world is ahead.”

She encouraged members to embrace kindness, compassion, and responsibility in their daily lives. She also conveyed the vision of Association President Jyothi Mahipal, who called on members to “Reach Out for a Better World and Inspire for a Better World”—a theme that places outreach and inspiration at the heart of this year’s mission.

“We must act today for a better tomorrow.”

Encouraging the celebration of Indian craftsmanship, the club aims to support local talent, preserve cultural heritage, and promote sustainable livelihoods. Earlier in the program, Immediate Past President Pavitra Reddy welcomed attendees and expressed heartfelt gratitude for the unwavering support she received during her tenure.

DOWN THE MEMORY LANE…

This year we shall highlight some of the important projects achieved by our Presidents which has laid the foundation over the years!

  • CIRCA 1946- President PROF A.R.WADIA
  • Revision and Reprinting of Club Constitution & Bye-Laws

What was done:

  • The Club had not updated or reprinted its Constitution and Bylaws since 1939.
  • A subcommittee consisting of Rtn. C. Subrahmanya Aiyar, Rtn. D.N. Hosali, and Rtn. R. L. Ganguli was appointed to examine the issue.
  • They discovered discrepancies between the Club’s constitution and the Rotary International standard constitution, especially due to changes introduced after the 1924 Los Angeles Convention.

Outcome:

  • A new version of the constitution was aligned with Rotary International standards.
  • Local amendments were made, especially around Senior Active Membership, which hadn’t existed in 1939.
  • The updated version was shared with all members for suggestions and formal adoption.

Significance:

This was not just an administrative task. It was a foundational update aligning the club with international Rotary principles and ensuring legal and procedural consistency for future operations.
