INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION AT RBV

The 80th Independence Day was celebrated with great patriotic spirit and enthusiasm at Rotary Bangalore Vidyalaya. The programme commenced with a Guard of Honour, followed by a prayer and the welcome address.
The highlight of the celebration was the flag hoisting by the President, followed by a speech on the significance of Independence Day.
The programme was attended by Rotarians including the President, Vineetha Chinappa, Secretary Vijay Rao, Gowri, Dr. Maneesh, Dinesh, Meera, Rashida, K. L. Ramesh, Vishakha and Sapna, along with Ann Sudha Dinesh and Rotaractors Veekshitha & Rohan.
NCC certificates were presented to the cadets in recognition of their participation and commitment.
The students then presented a series of energetic and vibrant dance performances, adding colour and enthusiasm to the celebrations.
In her address, the President appreciated the students and expressed confidence that “the bright young minds of today are the future of India and that the country is safe in their hands.” She also emphasised the importance of becoming responsible and good human beings. K. L. Ramesh encouraged the students to work hard, believe in themselves and always strive to do their best.
The celebration concluded with a Vote of Thanks, expressing gratitude to all those who contributed to making the Independence Day programme a meaningful and memora ble occasion.

A Collaboration to create change makers

An MOU between Rotary Club of Bangalore, represented by President Vineetha Chinappa, and STEAM Varsity, represented by Mr. Dharam Raj Panwar, Co-founder of STEAM Varsity, and facilitated by Rtn. Ranga Rao, was signed for establishing a Makerspace in Bengaluru to inspire the next generation of change makers.
This initiative is to create leaders out of the underserved youth in Bengaluru. The project is for 25 lakhs, of which 7.5 lakhs is being released now. It is a CSR contribution from Collins.

Celebrating Freedom, Empowering Girls

On India’s 80th Independence Day, STRONG HER, an initiative of Community Services, Rotary Club of Bangalore, reached 200 young girls at H V N Karnataka Public School, Malleshwaram, in association with Rotary Club of Bangalore West.
The 40-minute self-awareness session focused on instincts, boundaries, speaking up and confident choices. The girls were highly receptive, engaged, and eager to participate.
The programme carried added significance on Independence Day—a reminder that freedom must also mean creating a world where girls feel free to learn, dream, speak, choose and create.
STRONG HER believes this freedom comes with the responsibility to grow, respect others, support our communities and contribute to a better India.
The programme was attended by Rtn. Minnku Buttar, Rtn. Dr. Vimukhta Avinash, Rtn. Dr. Vijetha and Rtn. Jayanth Rudra from Rotary Club of Bangalore. Representing Rotary Club of Bangalore West were President Rtn. Rajesh M S, President-Elect Rtn. Raghunandan S Kand Rtn. Lakshmi.

Vaccinate Today, Protect Tomorrow

The 2nd HPV Vaccination Drive under ShieldHer: United Against Cervical Cancer was conducted on August 11, 2026, at Christ (Deemed to be University), Kengeri Campus, with clinical support from Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology and Sagar Chandramma Hospitals, facilitated by the Rotary Club of Ba ngalore.
A total of 140 individuals received HPV vaccination—80 students, 10 faculty members, and 50 ground staff. The drive included both first-time recipients and those completing their follow-up doses, with participation from both boys and girls, reinforcing the importance of gender-inclusive HPV prevention.
We thank Dr. Shobha K. for facilitating subsidized vaccines and Dr. Vidyamani Lingegowda, Dr. Srikanth, and Dr. Indira Reddy for their valuable clinical support. Our appreciation to Dr. Seela Sara Mathew from Christ University for her continued efforts in raising HPV awareness on campus.
From awareness to action—every vaccination is a step forward towards protecting the future and preventing HPV-related cancers.

Awarness Project Under Vocational Services

Rotary Club of Bangalore — Opening Doors to New Career Three Rotarians—Nalini Nanjundayya, Vanita Singh, and Sandhya Kunjur—visited St. Anne’s School and conducted a career awa reness session for 48 girls studying in II PUC.
The session highlighted the wide range of career opportunities available beyond traditional choices such as medicine, engineering, law, and teaching. Special focus was placed on careers in the film and media industry, including scriptwriting, story development, documentary filmmaking, editing, voice-over, production, sound, and cinematography.
The students were encouraged to explore vocational skills that can lead to employment as well as flexible freelance and home-based opportunities. The Rotary Club of Bangalore also assured them of support through training and mentorship, with experienced film professionals willing to guide interested students.
The key message was:
“Your circumstances do not have to define the limits of your ambition.”

“Courage Has a Name”: Kargil War Veteran Capt. Naveen Nagappa Addresses RHF on 80th Independence Day

Bangalore, August 15, 2026 The Rotary House of Friendship, was filled with pride and silence today as members of Rotary and Rotaract gathered to mark India’s 80th Independence Day. The highlight of the event was an inspiring talk by Kargil War Veteran Captain Naveen Nagappa, who shared stories of courage, sacrifice, and patriotism from the 1999 Kargil conflict.

Organized by Rotary Club of Bangalore in association with Rotaract clubs across the city, the event aimed to remind the next generation that freedom is earned and must be protected.
“Freedom is not free”
Speaking to a packed hall of Rotarians, Rotaractors, and students, Capt. Nagappa took the audience back to the icy heights of Kargil.
With calm voice and sharp memories, he spoke about life on the frontlines, the bond between soldiers, and the split-second decisions that define duty.
“80 years of Independence means 80 years of people standing guard so we can sleep peacefully. On mountains, in deserts, on borders — someone is always awake for India”, he said.
He spoke about his fellow officers and jawans who did not return, urging the audience to honor them not just with words, but by serving the nation in their own capacity.
A Morning of Remembrance and Resolve

The program began with flag hoisting and the national anthem, followed by a 2-minute silence for fallen heroes. RCB President and Secretary felicitated Capt. Naveen Nagappa.

In a rousing finale to the Independence Day celebration, the audience was treated to a collection of patriotic songs from around the nation performed by members of our RCB family, all melodically compered by Rtn. Riaz Basha. Rtns. Sharmila Mukerjee, Anu Varma and Shailesh Rudra regaled the celebrants with songs in Bengali, Hindi and Kannada, respectively. Rtn.Kalpana Ganesh and Ann Supriya Raghunathan capped off the afternoon with songs in Tamil.

On Aug 15, 2026 at Rotary Bangalore Vidyalaya, RYLA brought together 150+ young minds – grades 7-10 for an inspiring session on the essence of leadership.
IPP. Rtr. Akila A took the young leaders through the meaning of leadership, key characteristics of a great leader, and why leadership matters—encouraging them to lead with confidence, empathy, responsibility and purpose.
A session to remind every young mind that leadership isn’t just about being in charge; it’s about inspiring others, taking responsibility and creating an impact.
