SEWING MACHINES: STITCHING A BETTER LIFE
On October 29, 2025, Rotary Club of Bangalore (RCB) in partnership with Subhash Bagaria Foundation (SBF) and Chilume Social Service Society, organized the distribution of 91 sewing machines to women from Bengaluru’s slum communities in Ejipura and Andhra colonies celebrating 91 years of Rotary’s service. Each beneficiary is enrolled in a four-month tailoring program and receives MSME certification upon graduation. The cost of each machine is primarily supported by RCB and SBF, and the balance contributed by the women themselves. The ceremony was graced by Mr N.A. Haris (MLA, Shanthinagar), Mr Joseph AT (Chilume) and the RCB team comprising of Pres Sukhen Padmanabha, Rtn Srini Velidanda, Rtns Kavitha Muthappa, Gowri Oza, Nita Roy, Gertrude D’souza, Anju Agadi and Kalyani Talukdar. In their addresses, leaders emphasized the importance of skill-based empowerment and recognized the women’s contributions toward building self-reliant families. Certificates, awards, and sewing machines were handed over at the event to the graduating women, and those enrolled in the training program.

Each sewing machine symbolizes and enables economic empowerment by allowing women to start home-based tailoring businesses or join local groups immediately. This collaborative initiative, combining training, partial funding, and MSME certification, equips women to earn independently, support their families by establishing small businesses, and pursue personal goals. The ladies expressed gratitude for this vital support, highlighting how the skills and equipment will transform their lives.
