ShieldHer in Action: RCB Facilitates Its First HPV Vaccination Drive

The Rotary Club of Bangalore (RCB), along with Rotary District 3192, marked a significant milestone by facilitating its first HPV Vaccination Camp under the ShieldHer: United Against Cervical Cancer initiative at the Health Centre of CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Kengeri Campus. The camp successfully converted awareness into action, with 97 participants, primarily students and staff, along with walk-in beneficiaries receiving their first catch-up dose of the HPV vaccine.
The strong response reflected growing confidence in preventive healthcare, with many participants seeking guidance on follow-up doses and vaccination schedules highlighting the need for sustained vaccination pathways. The program was strengthened through collaboration with Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, Sagar Chandramma Hospitals, and the Karnataka State Chapter of the Association of Gynaecologic Oncologists of India (KSC-AGOI), ensuring clinical excellence and scientific integrity.
Expert oversight was provided by Dr. Shobha K (Kidwai) and Dr. Vidyamani Lingegowda (Sagar Chandramma Hospitals), while Dr. Surender S, Consultant Paediatrician, counselled participants on vaccine safety, schedules, and long-term benefits. The nursing team delivered vaccinations with care and precision, supported by seamless on-ground coordination.
By empowering individuals to take timely preventive action, this inaugural camp reaffirmed ShieldHer’s core message that cervical cancer prevention is achievable, effective, and begins with informed choice.

The preliminary rounds of the 36th Yadalam Nanjaiah Setty Rolling Shield Debate Competition, a flagship initiative of the Rotary Club of Ba ngalore, brought together 25 colleges, 34 teams, and nearly 70 students for a day of spirited and thoughtful debate.
From the opening round, it was clear that this was not just a competition, but a conversation. The topics reflected the world students are inheriting and actively questioning: artificial intelligence, inclusivity, diversity, and the evolving fabric of society.
Arguments were sharp, research was deep, and rebuttals were delivered with both confidence and restraint.
The debates were adjudicated by a distinguished panel – Rtn. Deepak Nakhra, Rtn. Kashinath Pai, Rtn. Usha Subramanian, Rtn. Riaz Basha, Rtn. Vanita Singh, and Ann. Prabha Pai. They evaluated teams on content, research, etiquette, rebuttal skills, clarity of communication, and time discipline.
After a closely contested preliminary round, four teams comprising eight students advanced to the finals. The shortlisted institutions – Kristu Jayanti University, RV College of Engineering, MES College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Malleswaram, and University Law College – stood out for their balance of intellect, composure, and persuasive delivery.
Every participant received a certificate of participation, an acknowledgment of the courage it takes to stand up, speak out, and defend an idea.
