Story Time

We spent a delightful time with the tiny tots at Concern Universe Foundation’s Child Development Centres on Ugadi (March 19, 2026).
Along with the ‘Doughnut King’ (title of my story), we visited two centres – Jeevanahalli and Baiyappanahalli benefiting 117 children aged 2-5 years from underprivileged backgrounds.
The warm welcome from children and staff was heartwarming, making it feel like a reunion. We had a fun-filled time with stories, rhymes, and yummy treats. The centres’ holistic approach to early learning, nutrition, health check-ups, and parent involvement is truly commendable.
It was satisfying to see the children thrive in a safe and nurturing environment. The visit was a lovely Ugadi celebration, leaving me inspired by the dedication of Concern Universe Foundation’s team.

Her majesty came, spoke and conquered!

The occasion was special, the club was welcoming District Governor Rtn Elizabeth Cherian, Assistant Governor Rtn. Fazal Ur Rahaman, Secretary Rtn. Honne Gowda, and a host of dignitaries for our annual GOV. As the guests arrived, they were accorded a red-carpet welcome, complete with strumming, drumming, and the rhythmic beats of celebration. The District Governor’s visit to RCB was not just an official engagement, it felt like a daughter coming home, a moment of warmth and belonging.
RCB President Rtn. Sukhen Padmanabha set the tone for the evening with his heartfelt words of welcome. In a poetic rhythm, he described the District Governor as “everyone’s eternal Queen! His words captured both reverence and affection, reflecting the deep respect the club holds for its leader. The Secretary Rtn. Kavita Muthappa shared that this year’s directors and committees have been exceptionally dynamic and proactive throughout the year.
A comprehensive video presentation was shared with the members which showcased the entire gamut of projects completed till date.
Thanks to the efforts of Rtn. Sandeep Ohri and Rtn. Kavita Muthappa, a concise and engaging synopsis was showcased.
When District Governor Rtn. Elizabeth Cherian addressed the gathering, she struck a balance between praise and challenge. She lauded the club’s remarkable achievements, acknowledging the wonderful work RCB has done over the years. Yet, she reminded members that the journey of service is never complete. “There is still a long way to go,” she urged, encouraging the club to aim higher and expand its horizons. Her words carried both inspiration and responsibility, a call to action for every member present.

One of her key messages was the importance of  broadening the club’s focus. While RCB has made significant contributions to rural communities, she emphasised the need to also look toward the urban poor. In a city like Bangalore, where rapid growth often leaves marginalised groups behind, this reminder was both timely and urgent. She stressed that the world should know about the club’s initiatives, it is not enough to quietly achieve; the impact must be visible, shared, and celebrated she added.

Another pressing concern she highlighted was the need to induct younger members into the club. For RCB to thrive in the years ahead, it must build a second and third line of leadership. Fresh energy, new perspectives, and youthful enthusiasm are essential to carry forward the legacy of service. On this occasion, she herself inducted six new members into the club, urging them to imbibe the culture and philosophy of RCB. Her words were a gentle yet firm reminder that the future of the club rests in the hands of those willing to embrace its values and take its mission forward.
The District Governor also spoke passionately about strengthening the Rotary Foundation. She described it as the main source of strength and supporting the Foundation, she explained, is not just about financial contributions, it is about sustaining the vision and ensuring that Rotary’s work continues to touch lives across communities.

As the evening unfolded, the celebratory spirit only grew stronger.
The camaraderie among members, the warmth of the speeches, and the joy of welcoming new faces created an atmosphere that was both festive and meaningful. RCB Secretary Kavita Muttappa had once remarked that the District Governor’s visit on March 23 would feel like a marriage happening at RCB. How true her words proved to be. The event carried the grandeur, joy, and togetherness of a wedding celebration. And when dinner was served, the analogy became even more vivid. The sumptuous spread resembled the traditional “Maduve Oota”-a wedding feast, where every dish was relished, every flavour savoured, and every guest left with a sense of fulfillment.

As the District Governor’s visit concluded, the members of RCB were left with renewed energy and purpose. They had celebrated their successes, welcomed new members, and listened to a vision for the future. The evening was a blend of tradition and aspiration, of joy and responsibility. For the Rotary Club of Bangalore, March 23 was not just another date on the calendar, it was a milestone, a celebration of what has been achieved and a promise of what is yet to come.
