RCB Yuva Yamini 24-25
The great Pattanam Subramania Iyer, guru to stalwarts like Mysore Vasudevachariar and Tiger Varadachariar, beautifully encapsulates in the Charanam of his famous kriti in Raga Malayamarutham the essence of a truly blessed soul:
vara maddela tAlAdi tambura
veeNa vAdyamula jErchukoni
shruti Suddhamu tO sukhamu gaana
varada venkaTE Swaruni bhajinchE || ( telugu)
meaning
The One who sings devotedly in perfectly tuned swaras, accompanied by mrudangam, tambura, and veena, the praise of benevolent Venkatesa is indeed the blessed soul.
Humble Namaskarams from the Yuva Yamini Team of the Rotary Club of Bangalore to the Gurus of the Indian Classical Music Universe who have preserved, nurtured, and been the custodians of one of the most important assets of humanity – the classical music traditions of India.
Today, when half of the world is involved in a war-like situation, it is most important to send waves of peace, compassion, and restraint into this universe and nudge every soul to believe deeply in the importance of timeless human values rather than selfish expansionism.
What better platform to do this than participate in RCB’s Annual Flagship Yuva Yamini Program where more than 100 budding artists will perform from dawn to dusk- musically taking us all into an internal deep dive exploration to cement ourselves in serenity.
All those connected to Yuva Yamini are aware that Yuva Yamini is a unique program conceptualized by the doyens of the Rotary Club of Bangalore to give a performance opportunity and encourage students of all formats of Indian Classical Music ( Hindustani, Carnatic and Dhrupad ) – sans competition.
A platform to bring together that community of people which makes it a point to imbibe our great Bharatiya Parampara into our daily lives by keeping the glow of Indian Classical music alive in their families.
This year we are glad to announce that Yuva Yamini will be conducted first in a live performance format in the Famous Auditorium of the Rotary House of Friendship at Lavelle Road, Bangalore on the 29th of December 2024. The details of the online format of the program will be announced later.
The live performance currently has 50 performance slots of 6-10 minutes each interspersed with 2-3 interesting 15-minute sessions on music appreciation.
If the number of eligible applications increases, the performance slots may be increased subject to the RCB Board’s approval.
These 50 slots would be allotted on a first cum first serve basis to eager participants having a positive recommendation from their venerable Gurus with the following preference criteria.
If the participant has learned music for less than 4 years we strongly recommend that they participate in groups of 3 to 5 as this will give a chance to many participants and will also encourage them to bond together while practicing.
We request the Honourable Gurus to send individual performance applications only of students who have learned for more than 4- 5 years or who they feel are fit to give a solo performance.
Participants/Groups coming in with accompaniments will be given preference.
Participants who have learned for less than 5 years will be given preference if they apply for group performance.
The performance may be beamed live on the Yuva Yamini Facebook page or may also be uploaded later on YouTube & Facebook by RCB in the Yuva Yamini Page/Channel.
The slot for each performance will be for 5-7 minutes. If the participant sings/plays a creative piece with the main song i.e. Raag Alaap, Neraval, Kalpana Swaram, Khayaal, the performance may extend up to 10 mins only for students who have learned for more than 4-5 years.
In addition to vocal and instrumental, we also encourage participants to send group/individual percussion performances on classical instruments like Mridangam, tables, Ghatam etc.
We suggest all participants practice well as their performances will be viewed live by many distinguished Rotarians and also some esteemed Music Sabha office bearers who may mark eligible performers for future opportunities.
We hope that the recognition and exposure they get will inspire and propel the student participants forward in their study and practice of classical music.
